NordicCon 2008

This Years NordicCon was concidered a great success. It was held at the North Aire Banquet Hall (Knights of Columbus) on Sept. 27, 2008. It was are first year at this venue and with almost 4000 sq.ft. We had plenty of room, and lighting was decent. We had several vendors at NordicCon with 25 tables sold.

We had a total of 90 entrants, with a total of 343 models in competition. We had 288 models in Open, 48 in our theme "Back to the Fifties", and 7 models in our Junior category. We gave out in awards a total of 15 golds, 18 silvers, and 16 bronzes.

For the first time that I know of at a model contest. This years NordicCon had food available on-site. A special thanks goes out to Vicky and Judi and the rest of North Aire Catering for putting on a great spread. The spaghetti dinner was a big hit and I hope this is something that will be considered for future NordicCons and other model contest as well.

And another special thanks to Steve Jantcher, and Mark Hembree at FineScale Modeler for taking pictures. This helps promote our contest and our local clubs.

The only complaint that I heard was some people were disappointed that it was not a judged contest. I have decided that I will take over as head judge for the next NordicCon and if it works out, I will continue as head judge. So my hopes is that it will only get better in the future.

Thank you for all the volunteers and help we received the day of the contest. NordicCon is one of the premier contest in the states, and it couldn't be this way with out your help. And a "Very Very Special Thank You" to Bob Maderich who helped me out with advice as well as hard work when I needed assistance.

Thank you for a great NordicCon,

Bernard Kugel
